This project is special to me as it's for the ReDefiners World Languages community in Tampa, FL where I teach English as a second language. ReDefiners is a non-profit organization comprised of a group talented people who work hard to make language learning accessible for residents of Hillsborough county and beyond. They offer affordable Mandarin, Arabic, Spanish, and English classes.

To begin the project, I took a community poll to establish the design direction. There were requests to represent additional languages including those spoken by team members and students. The additions were Quechua, Vietnamese, Haitian Creole, and Italian.

The aim was to create a fun design that welcomes people into the building and represents our diverse community of language learners and teachers. The mural is located on the west facing door of the ReDefiners office.
I started by removing the signs and sanding the door with the help of my partner. 😅
When the door was smooth, I applied a white primer.
Sketched idea for the mural design.
Trying out colors and details.
Rough mockup made in procreate.
I compared paint swatches with print materials to choose the best matches for the brand colors.
Getting down to business.
Around the fixtures...
Iced coffee was a must for this project! It was hot outside. ☀️
